“Pastor”, is that your title, your station in life? How are you doing in your work? First of all, did you first meet the qualifications written from God that regulate men who may pastor? I Timothy 3:2 says that a bishop must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, and apt to teach. Titus 1:7 declares that a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, and not given to filthy lucre.
I Timothy 3:1 says “This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.” So what’s so good about being a bishop, an overseer? Well, a bishop, also called a pastor has the responsibility of caring for the spiritual well being of a part of the body of Christ. He is engaged in preparing a people who are a part of the bride of Christ. As you labor in love for the saints in Christ, you also get to share something specifically Christlike. Jesus is called the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls in I Peter 2:25. So, how are you doing? Are you Christlike? Do you emulate Christ as you serve the Lord, caring for his people?
Our lessons called New Life Series has much to say about true godly living. As a pastor, you should be walking in holiness, loving the saints for Christ’s sake, and being a living example of your Lord. Perhaps both you and your people might benefit by studying this series of lessons from “Bible To You”. We especially recommend “Grieve Not The Holy Spirit Of God”. Perhaps in a short time you can be happier and more effective in your ministry than you have been in the past. Your people may become a lovelier people before God. If that happens, then, to God be the Glory!
